The $5 cover charge is for the under 21 crowd - we just went to this open mic this past week and though things get started later (more like 10pm) and it's unclear whether you play 2 or four songs (2 is what's stated, but noone shuts you down, either). Pretty decent sound for the audience but on the night we played the monitors weren't working. The soundguy was also working the bar so it was a little touch and go and hurry up and wait, but the vibe at the Lounge is AWESOME (not like a bar at ALL) and the talent bar is very, very high. All in all, I'd have paid to see these performers in a showcase setting… friendly audience, LISTENING room enforced by the owner and host… there is a piano, but I've no idea if it's in tune.
rob ilyAIMY (9/2007): I called out here in the afternoon and the employee was quite helpful. However, he informed me that there was a $5 cover charge to performers and fans so I did not wind up going. I cannot see paying $5 to entertain a crowd for free. I still come from the school that once you are competent or a professional you deserve to get paid for entertaining or at least not have to PAY to perform, *especially* considering this is a bar. I'd easily by 2-3 drinks while I was there and tip the host.
